I'm a young African American female that's been trained to believe long, straight hair is beautiful and natural (black) nappy hair is bad and less attractive. I no longer think the way the way I've been thinking for past 16yrs of my life.

As of Oct 8th 2009, I decided to wear my natural hair. I will no longer straighten my hair with flat irons or hair relaxers. After watching several videos on YouTube explain ways to keep my hair curly, I was inspired to wear my natural hair texture. A relaxer is a type of lotion or cream which makes hair less curly, and easier to straighten by chemically "relaxing" the natural curls. The active agent is usually a strong alkali, although some formulations are based on ammonium thioglycolate instead. Unfortunately I relaxed my hair right before I made my decision. After hours of research I discovered that in order to wear my natural hair, I would have to cut off my relaxed hair or transition. Yes Girl, i haven't been on here in a while but I made the BC around Thanksgiving last year. I loved it so much that I keep it short. It's sooo much less hassle and I love it!!! I'll post some pics later
